     I feel it a privilege to introduce Smt. Velagapudi Durgamba Government Degree College for Women, located in Nidadavole, East Godavari District. Nidadavole is a Godavari catchment area and a great saivakshetram with much historical importance. This was once a water course popularly known as ‘Niravadhyapuram’ and was ruled by Chalukyas. It is said that Rani Rudrama Devi was the wife of Veerabhadra Chalukya, the then ruler of Nidadavole. It has a niche not only in the annals of Andhra History but also in ancient Telugu Literature.

      The college which is established in 2.5 acres was named after Smt. Velagapudi Durgamba, the donor of the site. Realizing the need of a separate institution for women students, it was established in the year 1983. This college has six different UG courses such as B.A, B.Com (General), B.Com(Computers), B.Sc (MPC), B.Sc (MP Computers) & B.Sc (CBZ). Nearly 425 students in and around Nidadavole are persuing qualitative education in this college. With 11 regular faculty members, 3 contract and 4 guest faculty members, the college is catering the academic needs of undergraduate women students of nearly 45 villages from 5 mandals surrounding Nidadavole.

      This college is affiliated to Adikavi Nannaya University, Rajamahendravaram and having 2(f) & 12(b) status. The college is striving for all-round development of women students who are socially and economically backward. With spectacular results in the university examinations the college attracts the attention of the stakeholders. There is a great encouragement to our students to bring out and prove their talents both in curricular and extracurricular aspects.

      With the unstenching efforts of the teaching, Non-Teaching staff, students and the stakeholders, the college ever strives for excellence and I request the same support and encouragement from the stakeholders in future too.
